"Enhanced Interrogation" - great way to get false confessions

Reader comment on item: I Give Up: There Is No Terrorism, There Are No Terrorists
in response to reader comment: Absolutely correct, and I propose another harmful semantic controversy that should be ended.

"If, as the CIA claims, that several impending attacks were thwarted, and hundreds of lives saved, by the information obtained from brief periods of waterboarding, "

The CIA claims have been refuted, so let's also put this part of the conversation to rest. As reported in the media, the report of the U.S. Senate found that "enhanced interrogation" is not successul, and is more likely to induce false information, if anything at all. Think about it: "enhanced interrogation" was widely used in witch trials in the Middle Ages and beyond. Hundreds of confessions were extracted, and the subjects also implicated hundreds of other innocent people, who in turn confessed to being witches. Human nature hasn't changed; most people will get to a point where they will say anything to stop the "enhanced interrogation."

Amazing that the supporters of primitive and ineffective methods continue to be in denial about this.
