There is still something called terrorism. Put simply, it is "violence against non-combatants for political purposes." One can debate each word as well as word omissions, but to give up on the term is surrender to the perpetrators who would rather be called "fighters" or "jihadis."

And you were correct, Dr. Pipes, the Beirut attack was not terrorism, although some would argue that attacking soldiers not on combat duties but, say, home on leave , is still terrorism.
