Reader comment on item: Boston Bombing Lesson: Ban Niqabs and Burqas
in response to reader comment: is there a solution?

miri: you wrote in part, "NO, I dont want the same thing here God forbid but I cant see making every person from who is Muslim a suspect. Imagine if it was you. How would you feel?"

In response, I would not be offended for being asked to conform to measures that pertain to public safety concerns and proper identity. That is why Muslims should not be offended nor feel "religiously persecuted" as this is a society where anyone walking into a public establishment with their head and face covered would automatically be "suspect" regardless of who they are. Additionally, if an individual wearing full head and body covering of niqab or burkah knocked on your door would you consider them "suspect" and wish for them to identify his/her self by showing the face - or would you let them walk right in? The potential danger posed by an unidentifiable individual is too great to take a chance at risking your safety as well as the safety of your family and the general public. Now, if Muslim women want to wear, or are required to wear, the niqab or burkah to their own mosque that's one thing.

However, to wear the full covering where the American general public is gathered creates an automatic safety concern; not because of religious intolerance but because of the history of bombings perpetrated by burkah-wearing Muslims in their own countries. We don't want to give them that chance here in America.
