stop a series, the danger of cameras

Reader comment on item: Boston Bombing Lesson: Ban Niqabs and Burqas

Submitted by myth (Germany), Apr 22, 2013 at 06:48

When I first heard of the Boston attack three questions came to mind.

  1. Given this was not a suicide mission, would this be the first of a series of attacks?
  2. Am I looking at an Islamist attack?
  3. Would it be foreign or homegrown terrorists?

The niqab/burqa-ban conntects to my first question. Hunting down the Boston terrorists not only serves justice. It did prevent a series of attacks to follow had the terrorists walked away. This new dark scenario goes beyond the suicide 911 attack, it goes beyond prevention. It requires camera identification of everone.

However I have one concern. If I was a terrorist, I would consider placing explosives precisely in either existing of fake surveillance cameras already conveniently in public places. Whatever the counter-tactics, it is people, not the clothes, not the technology, who pose the threat. We will need people to defend.
