in response to reader comment: I have had enough of Islam and what it represents

Nurit G.'s comment reflects a growing sentiment among many in the USA, even if I agree with Dr. Pipes that such broad-brush, "crude" policies won't work.

However, the central tenets of Islam do include the call to jihad, including aggressive warfare against and enslavement of non-Muslims. Hence, there will be an impulse towards dangerous behavior in sections of the Islamic community, even if vast numbers of Muslims do not act upon this impulse.

A better tack would be that whenever a journalist, teacher, government official, or elected politician notes the place of jijhad in Islamic theology and backs it up with quotes from the Qur'an and Hadith, he would not all of a sudden be Juan Williamsed (an analogue to being "Borked"). Our government's looking the other way at the theological justification for Islamic terror (an easy one to make, at least from this Christian's standpoint) is completely inexcusable.

Further, the lame and cowardly responses to Islamic terror against the USA by our media and academic circles should warn the public that the supposedly "liberal" portion of our political elite can no longer be trusted to protect the public.
