Hi Michel

"Years ago I myself in this forum have heatedly debated and argued the existence of a silent majority of moderate muslims. "

I have not read all your prior posts - but recall this exchange we had :

http://www.danielpipes.org/comments/184100 , as events in Libya were beginning to unfold. Note in particular our last two paragraphs. Now we can look back and see what actually has happened. No change for the better at all: more persecution of non-Islamic minorities, despair amongst reformists and secularists across all of North Africa, Libyan sourced missiles fired from the Sinai into Israel and the likelihood of the Muslim Brotherhood win in Egyptian elections next month

"The times and events have eroded my optimism utterly."

Hopefully not ALL your optimism about life itself and the enormous potential we all share but just the misplaced optimism in expecting a belief system which is based on and fosters ignorance, to have any better outcomes than it has consistently produced.. i.e. ' if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got'.

While flicking back through the posts - I'd forgotten about this analogy. A good start - but not THE solution - is to rewrite brand M's instructions. But it's difficult to see that happening because the rules of the game are that they can't be. But in the unlikely event it ever does - will only be instigated by Brand M users who have lived in the West and realised how primitive, limiting and restrictive it is. But in doing so - those same people will immediately have become apostates.

Things will unfold in unknown ways but it's up to anyone who appreciates our hard-won heritage not give a relentless and cunning adversary unaware of its own ignorance , an inch. It's not like they appreciate it - they demand it.
