When once upon a time....Reader comment on item: When Israel Stood Up to Washington [in 1981] Submitted by Jay1 (United States), Apr 6, 2010 at 21:52 I think Dr pipes point that Israel must stand up for its opinions and see them through has validity.Frankly, there is no country that has more media coverage ,international conversation, and suggestions than Israel evokes. In part, its because this conflict has gone on for quite some time.In part, its a form of lets work the Jews anti semitism. And in part, its Israel's doing. How is it Israel's doing? Its not that Im being critical of their responses to difficult circumstances that no other country quite faces. Its Israels doing in part because Israels hyper democracy concludes too little concensus. And the void in this on going lack of concensus is being manifested into others will make the choices for you.Frankly,Israels leaders not only have too little concensus, they are are hard to understand. For instance, the Likud party, the champions of fist pounding nationality, has given away all of the Sinai, all of the Gaza, and under prime Likud Minister Olmert ,implied that the Palestinians can expect to get equal Israel land for Palestinian land .This is some form of fist pounding nationalists Israel thinks their voting for! Apparently what the Likud is doing is succesfull mostly inside hyper Israel, and less advantageous outside. There meaningless fisty ways often seems to be just what the enemy ordered .Sorry. What Israels foes fear is 1947 revisted. And its probably what Israels friends admire. When once upon a time, a savy Labor party, with Likud in oppostion....................................
