PM Netanyahu lacks the stature to make a statement like Begin's with authenticity. However, President Peres does have this moral stature. He is an authentic founding father for Israel. I think it best if Peres were to make such a statement directly to President Obama, but if he cannot get this direct contact a public statement might be useful. Such a statement would make clear that the issue is not the poicies of Israel's current government, but a more fundamental disagreement between Israel and the current executive branch of the USA.
