Iran did not become a major power because of the war with iraq, it was Saddam who benefitted when Khomeni proposer a truce when Iran had bled dry. The then Ayatollah wan so less fanatic that todays moron ahmednijad. And iran then was supported by NKorea and China and indirectly by a slew of western countries. If iran is the receiving end again, history will repeat itself. Even today if iran is banged hard enough mollas will crack. If they dare to use their puny nuclear warheads riding on borrowed missiles, they will invite destruction on themselves. Shame on America that does not have the guts to do the right thing at the right time and instead chooses to waste time and lines in neighboring Iraq. If mollas worldwide are whipped into correction iran cannot do much sitting at home with a borrowed nascent nuclear technology and outdated defences.
