Encourage and promote Israel's self-protectionReader comment on item: U.S. to Israel: Do As We Say ... Submitted by Bryan Bessner (Canada), Jul 1, 2003 at 13:52 As always, Dr. Pipes' words state realities clearly, with no attempt at obfuscation. And I heartily endorse his reading of the American double standard when it comes to how Israelis should behave vis-a-vis themselves in similar contexts. I would change only one word of the article, the third-to-last. America should not merely be "condoning" Israeli self-protection, it should be encouraging and promoting it. Only when Israel has been permitted the ability to display strength has there been relative calm in the region (pre-Clinton). Negotiations towards an ultimate peace would proceed much better if the Palestinians knew that one false move or hotheaded action would bring real and complete destruction down upon them.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
