Letter published in the PostReader comment on item: U.S. to Israel: Do As We Say ... Submitted by Gamaliel Isaac (United States), Jul 3, 2003 at 10:12 Here is the original version of a letter I submitted to the post. An abbreviate version of the letter was published on July 3rd.Daniel Pipes article "Do as I say..." shows the hypocrisy of the U.S. State Department when dealing with Israel. It's important to point out that underlying these policies are the desire to appease the Saudis, a desire that has governed American and British policy since before the birth of the modern state of Israel. When millions of Jews were being exterminating by the Nazis, Britian blocked their escape to the Jewish National Home and the State Department supported British policy while restricting Jewish immigration to the United States. Both countries were afraid that if they supported Israel the Arabs would ally themselves with the Nazis which they did anyway when the Nazis were getting the upperhand in North Africa. When Israel declared independence the United States embargoed all arms to the region while Britain armed the Arabs. Neither country wanted Saudi hostility after what they believed would be the certain destruction of Israel.
