Dear Dr. Pipes:
Right on! There is absolutely no distinction between the US position in Iraq (and the war on terrorism generally) and that faced by Israel with the Palestinian terror groups. It is simply nonsense for Richard Boucher and the admininstration to hew to this false line. Regrettably, it reinforces the prevailing European and American elite media view of moral equivalency between the actions of the two parties. President Bush has been rightly congratulated for his moral clarity on the war on terrorism but in the case of Israel and the "road map' process, he unfortunately is neither right nor consistent.
As other writers have also pointed out, neither the Palestinians nor the Arab world generally have accepted Israel's right to exist! Until the price for this intransigence is made so heavy upon the Palestinians and their various sponsors, we will never have a permanent peace in that region. The "Road Map' is nothing more than a diplomatic cover for being seen to be doing something, a trap into which successive US administrations have fallen!
Thank you for again pointing out the obvious. If only the folks at State's NEA section and the White House could adjust their blinders as easily.
