Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

Submitted by Tracy Boudreaux (United States), Apr 2, 2003 at 22:51

It is fascinating to hear hate speech being classified as "freedom of speech". Although America is alone in the world to allow real freedom of speech, this does NOT give teachers the right to say things to students in their classes. Also what this "professor" said about wishing soldiers would "frag" their officers is objectionable from all standpoints. Its obvious this "professor" has no real contact with the real world today, but is lost in his own academic ideas of how the world should be. I think Columbia (and many of today's large colleges...) should seriously rethink tenure for such unstable and obviously mentally unbalanced individuals---without pay.
