Reader comment on item: Muslim-Controlled Governments Subsidize Conversions of Kafirs
in response to reader comment: For 'Abd al-Rahman and "covering of sins" and the word kaffir!!

Submitted by Abdul Rahman Reijerink (Australia), Jul 22, 2006 at 18:26

I did not write "the word" for covering up sins, but "a word". Kafara is one such word in common muslim usage for just this, especially in terms of illness/suffering being a forgiveness of sins.

My friend wrote back this morning and he concurs that kufr is related to covering up. His interpretation on what constitues kufr is different to mine, but that does not change the fact that kufr, even if it has come to mean "disbelief" does in fact get this meaning from the kafirs act of covering up the truth. Why is this such a hard concept to swallow?

Yes I can read Arabic, even if I do not understand many of the words without reference to a teacher or dictionary. I have to spell unfamiliar words out, but I can read straight out ones that I am familiar with. I understand the basic principles that you have enumerated, so stop insulting me and just stick to advocating your point of view. Attacks "ad hominem" add nothing to the validity of your argument, they are ugly and ill mannered.
