First of all the assumption that there were wild original is completely without merit, strange that you would assume it at all really ... We know that Herodotus was wrong when he told his strange story of the prostitute women of assyria. First of all we know that assyrian society was very much focused on perserving the chastity of their wifes and daughters so it makes no sense (if mesopotamian sources are to be believed). In addition to that it was actually against the law for prostitutes to wear veils, while non-prostitute or slave women had to wear veils (thus the veil served pretty much the same function as it has done since).
