Reader comment on item: Islamists, Get Out

After reading your article, I thought, well it's about time the world faced reality. However, your reference to Quebec taking a tough stand against Islamists is misguided.

. ..You should understand that Quebec conducts it's affairs as a nation within a nation. That is they have their own laws, their own language, and a very different ideology. Quebec's attachment to Canada is based on the billions of dollars they receive from other tax paying Canadians and the sacred status they enjoy within Canada, as the Liberal Government continues to shower them with benefits in order to keep them from separating. When Quebec held a referendum in the 90's to determine whether they should become a sovereign nation, the vote to remain part of Canada was of slightest of margins. I explain this in order for you to understand that whatever decisions Quebec makes do not apply to Canada.

You see, that with profound regret, I must advise you that Islamists are welcome in Canada. Again I remind you of the Khadr family. They left Canada in 1998, to join Al-Qaeda. When the men folk were involved in a shoot-out in Pakistan and the father and one son were killed and another other wounded, Canada brought the wounded son back to Canada so he could receive the best medical treatment available and probably live on welfare for the rest of his life as he is a parapalegic. By the way one of the Khadr brothers continues to make his residence in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

There are two national Islamic Television shows, which are of particular interest. They are "Reflections on Islam" and "Let the Qur'an Speak". Both programs refer to Islam as Universal religion and blueprint for government and glorify Islamic laws. Islam is so revered by the Ontario government, that they are on the verge of implementing "Sharia Law" for Muslims even though many thoughtful Muslim women are opposed. I refer to Irshad Manji, a Canadian Muslim woman, an International author and speaker who campaigned against this noxious legislation.

What I am trying to make clear is that the Liberal Government in Canada welcomes Islamists with the hope that they will continue to support the Liberal Party and vote to keep them in power. Quebec's agenda however, is to encourage immigration of French speaking people who will support an independent French Quebec.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I am aware that Islamists are welcome in Canada. Gagnon-Tremblay was expressing an opinion, not making policy. The same goes for the other politicians I quoted. I am noting a trend among some prominent figures, not cataloguing actual changes in policy.
