in response to reader comment: Cause of Sydney Riot

Submitted by John Furedy (Australia), Jun 20, 2006 at 01:02

A note I wrote to the Canadian Coalition for Democracy reports more recent differential treatment of the Australian and Muslim criminal actions seems relevant: http://canadiancoalition.com/forum/messages/17010.shtml.

I should add that perhaps the most odious feature of the behavior of the Muslim youth for 3 years before the riot was their taking over the beach (both by restricting others from using their "areas", and also by sexually harassing women with brief bathing suits, an attire which, to these Muslim youths, designated them as whores). This is particularly odious to Australian culture, where all beaches are completely accessible to all members of the public, and where the life savers, who save lots of lives because the surf is very dangerous, are all amateur and unpaid, unlike the North American paid lifeguards who very seldom are called upon to save lives.

None of this excuses the behavior of some of the Australian rioters, which should have been, and were punished as well as condemned by the Australian community, many of whom provided information about the guilty individuals, of whom two were shamed into turning in themselves. In contrast, the much more premeditated acts of revenge by Muslim youths again completely innocent individuals that night, whose only connection with the rioters was that they did not have a middle eastern appearance. Although less violent than firing rockets at innocent civilians, these action has the same amoral features of all terrorist acts that primarily target innocent civilians. Yet, as I indicated in my post to CCD, the Sydney police and the State Government were much more lenient towards these Muslim terrorists than to the Australian rioters.

All the best, John
