Most rebellious ?

Reader comment on item: Islam's Inadvertent Patterns

Submitted by Vijay (France), Mar 27, 2014 at 17:17

Dr.Pipes mentions Muslims being most rebellious against colonialism . I would not agree with that . Unless the colonialists were western colonialists. Islam provided no incentive to rebel against colonialism if the colonialists were also Muslims. Turks ruled over Arabs for 400 years; yet till the First World war , there was such rebellion. Arab colonialism in Africa or Asia are largely justified , if not excused. Apart from political colonialism, Islam provides no counter-weight to Arab imperialism in the cultural sphere. For example all over the world the Muslims have to adopt Arab names. If the Colonial conquests are done with cries of Allahu Akbar or Sharia , Muslims would be the first to fall for it, either as victims or perpetrators.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Okay, I meant Western colonialism, the world-wide phenomenon that lasted several centuries and shaped the globe.
