With all due respect, Mr. McGinley, it would be admirable if the Muslims were to "...imitate the Jewish way of honoring its Primary Scripture and at the same time living in the real world" as you suggest. However, it is their belief that the Jews have strayed from the truth by corrupting and not abiding by its Primary Teachings. The fact that Muslims refrain from pork is what Islam adopted from Judaism. But,it doesn't end there. You cited that there are some teachings of the Torah that are no longer followed and are, in your words, "atrocious".

If you analyze Islam, you will see that some of those "atrocious" acts that you may have in mind are exactly what Islam derived from the Torah. For example the four (4) forms of capital punishment are: Stoning; Beheading; Strangulation and Burning.

Additionally, ritual animal sacrifices must be offered, unruly children are to be subjected to honor killing, people put to death for blasphemy and the rule of 'an eye for an eye' is still observed. Those are in the Torah and are what Muslims believe are the true teachings that they are to abide by. It is their mindset that they are doing "God's Will" through such acts. How would you change their mind?
