Would-be Martyrs Should Think Twice about Their "Eternity"

Reader comment on item: Islam's Inadvertent Patterns

Submitted by Mike Ramirez (United States), Mar 9, 2014 at 19:11

While jihadists are being trained to become suicide bombers and are being indoctrinated to think they will have a joyful bliss of pleasures with virgins in paradise, they have not been informed by the Islamic clerics about their real "eternal destiny" according to Muhammad's teaching. For example:

"It has been narrated on the authority of Masruq who said...we asked Abdullah about the Qur'anic verse: 'Think not of those who are slain in Alah's way as dead. Nay, they are alive, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord.' He said: We asked the meaning of the verse (from the holy prophet) who said: 'The souls of the martyrs live in the bodies of green birds who have their nests in chandeliers hung from the throne of the Almighty. They eat the fruits of paradise from wherever they like and then nestle in these chandeliers..."' (Sahih Muslim Book, Book 020, Number 4651)

There you have it. The souls of martyrs live in the bodies of green birds in the "Islamic paradise" according to what Muhammad taught. Looks like all a martyr will really be able to do with those "promised virgins" is to fly all around them and land on their shoulders!

Daniel Pipes replies:

This is not an inadvertent pattern, however.
