Reader comment on item: Why the Japanese Internment Still Matters

Submitted by Alvin Ziontz (United States), Dec 28, 2004 at 13:41

Your thought- provoking article on the Japanese Internment was marred by your categorizing the ACLU as "radical." You may disagree with the views of those who regard this action as unjustified, unconstitutional and illegal, but attacking the ACLU as a "radical organization", puts you into the company of "civil liberties haters", and leaves you subject to being labeled as a "right wing ideologue", all being labels that do not do justice to the substance of your argument.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I call the ACLU "radical" for many reasons, but the one that comes first to mind was my first-hand experience with one of its staffers earlier this year; I wrote up the experience at "Did the ACLU Disrupt My Talk at American University?"
