Reader comment on item: Why the Japanese Internment Still Matters
in response to reader comment: Difference between Japanese and fundamentalist Muslim immigrants

Submitted by howard freeman (United States), Jun 2, 2009 at 19:05

The japanese immigrants did not come here to blend in and become Americans. They lived in japanese speaking enclaves, sent their children to japanese language schools and if it could be afforded back to japan for schooling. They considered themselves japanese. No immagrant group, believed the streets were paved with gold in America, more than the japanese. They came here to make money and return to Japan therefore most of the men came without wives. This resulted in the picture bride. Because the men had to stay a lot longer then they planned so they sent for a wife having never met her . read Nisei by bill Hosakiawa
