Freedom of expression in Koran burning

Reader comment on item: Should We Blame a Florida Pastor for Deaths in Afghanistan?

Submitted by Bob Jack (United States), Apr 7, 2011 at 16:36

Like it or not the burning of a Koran is an act of free expression. This burning, carried out by an American in the United States, was a protest against the very nature of such acts of intolerance as demonstrated by Islamic fanatics who decapitated and murdered UN employees in Afghanistan in reaction to the Koran burning.

To infer from the reaction by the fanatical followers of Islam that there is a moral equivalence between the burning of a Koran and mass murder,or even one murder, is insane. What the world faces is the culture of a civilization consisting of fanatical Islam which must be confronted and eliminated everywhere that it exists. Will "moderate" Muslims standup and denounce these murders? If they do not, they clearly are responding by silence in approval of these heinous acts by their fellow followers of Islam. There is a prevailing air of "political correctness" in this country which tolerates the unfathomable acts of wanton murder operating from the dispicable ranks of fanatical Islamists.

The only real solution is for Americans in great numbers to stand up and defy these Islamists wherever they try to take root in our society. Islam is a Trojan Horse which has the capacity to erode and ultimately destroy the liberties, values and institutions which differentiate and establish America as an exceptional nation among nations.
