American exceptionalism

Reader comment on item: Should We Blame a Florida Pastor for Deaths in Afghanistan?

Submitted by Abraham Irwin (United States), Apr 9, 2011 at 18:28

I find the act the burning of the Koran, by Terry Jones, to be abhorrent. It is in the same venue as the burning of the American flag.

Yet it is part of our culture and is protected by our belief in freedom of expression. To allow any other culture, by the threat of brutality, to suppress our freedoms is repugnant."Self censorship" is more dangerous than anything that Terry Jones did.

We seemed to have lost the belief in ourselves. There are those that believe in Amerika. I still believe in the city on the hill and in American exceptionalism.
