There exists an interesting contrast in the political spectrum in America today. You have your moderates on either side of the fence. The difference between moderate Republicans and Democrats is minimal. I would estimate the moderate groups on either side to make up around 50% of the total population.
The "base" of the political parties tend to be more hardcore left and right wingers. Here's where things get interesting. On the left you have folks like Michael Moore, Janeane Garofalo, Howard Dean, Al Sharpton etc., all of whom I believe are virulently anti-Israel.
The "base" on the right is largely made up of the "religious right" a group known to be more pro-Israel then even most Jewish groups.
It is mind boggling to me that most Jews continue to align themselves with the political party whose base is against them. It's akin to sleeping with the enemy. We have to throw our support behind those who support us.
