taking care of "the beloved"

It was interesting for me to see an article about Orde Wingate, noting the "origins of his commitment to the Jewish State are by no means clear" when there is knowledge of his "Old Testament-heavy Christian upbringing." I seems very odd that anyone who knew of another's knowledge, much less deep engagement, and I say that without presumption, in either the Old or New (since the New refers, confirms and fulfills the Old Testament) Testament would not completely comprehend said individual's desire for care for "the beloved," Israel, even though that is New Testament.
