Interesting comment on JewsReader comment on item: "Jewish" - Not the Same as "Pro-Israel" Submitted by Debanjan Banerjee (India), Aug 18, 2009 at 09:00 Dr. Pipes, You have made the following comment.
It is an interesting one. I would love to know your views on whether on whether by the word Jew we mean a religious community or an ethnic community. I am asking this question because I have come into correspondence with some Israelis who call Jews an ethnic community and not a religious one. I would love to have your views on this one. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: "Adherens of a faith" was how I put it, which is entirely differen from "members of an ethnic community." The first can take on the features of the second without being it. Comment on this item
