Thanks a lot, Jimmy!

Reader comment on item: A New Round of Anger and Humiliation: Islam after 9/11

Submitted by Marek Suchenek (United States), Jun 11, 2002 at 12:13

The Author writes: "For two decades - from the time Ayatollah Khomeini reached power in Iran in 1979 with "Death to America" as his slogan - U.S. embassies, planes, ships, and barracks were assaulted, leading to hundreds of American deaths."

Let us remember who deserves the credit for the rise of Khomeini and his fundamentalism in the then-US ally,Iran.

It was Jimmy Carter who let pro-Western Shah Reza Pahlavi be overthrown and replaced by a regime that moved Iran centuries backwards. So much for "progressive" liberalism represented by Jimmy Carter and his party. Democratic leadership should be reminded about that.
