and his generation understood what needed doing, and, they, in overwhelming numbers, had the courage to undertake it. Today, many Americans (with the noteworthy exception of those who volunteer for military service) lack both.

I recently overheard a male flight attendant on a business trip saying that he supports the troops in Iraq but not the war. It's that sort of goofey logic that plagues us.
