Bad News & Good News

Reader comment on item: Op Eds Now More Central in War than Bullets

Submitted by LDC (United States), Oct 19, 2006 at 10:07

The bad news is that the "mainstream" media (the notion of a mainstream media is rapidly evaporating, but it's too soon to call it the "old" media) is, by its historical DNA (since the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War), anti-nationalism and anti-war.

With the rise of the good news (namely, the proliferation of alternative news sources through cable TV and the internet), the mainstream has become more overt in the propagation of its bias. And, less artful and sophisticated in manupulating the news reports by its choice of language.

Meanwhile, the military is ill-equipped to engage in effective P.R. It all promises to get worse before it gets any better.
