Reader comment on item: Does the [New York] Police Department Profile? Should It?

Submitted by rick (United States), Jun 13, 2006 at 17:16

Both before in the late 1930s and during WW II , was placing agents in German establishments such as restaurants and beer drinking halls in New York City's Yorkville German-American neighborhood "profiling"?

You bet it was.

We were at war with Germany and you don't place your agents agents in Hindu Temples to find out if Nazi Germany had agents working within the German American community in the United States.

Were the vast majority of German Americans loyal and patriotic citizens?

Yes they were and aside from the loyal service German Americans performed in WW II as US fighting men and women, their lack of "outrage" at the government's monitoring of places where German Americans ate and drank is further proof of their loyalty. Beer Halls may have been important meeting grounds to Nazis. Mosques, however, are absolutely critical to Islamic terrorists.

Jihadists are religiously driven to commit acts of terrorism. Mullahs, who advocate and assist in performing acts of terror are not only important players but are in fact essential in understanding and thwarting acts of terrorism. Not to inflitrate mosques is to forfeit the war on terror before you begin. The war on terror is more dependent on good intelligence than any war we have ever fought. The lack of agents in mosques allowed terrorists a free hand to plan and commit terror. It was almost as if they were invisible. Is the invisibility of your enemy a good or bad thing in trying to prevent them from achieving their diabolical ends?

We know that the bombing of the WTC in 1991 was mosque driven and the mullah at the center of that bombing which killed seven persons is serving a life sentence. The Mohammed Atta's are the soldiers but the mullahs supply the inspiration and rational of terrorism. They channel, encourage and build on the frustration and hate into concrete acts of violence. In fact, remove the jihadist mullahs and in effect you have struck the mortal blow to terrorism.

Profile?

Not to do so is to ensure more 9/11s and condemn more innocents to their deaths.
