Reader comment on item: Something Rotten in Denmark?

Submitted by Anon (United Kingdom), Feb 4, 2006 at 19:16

I've read everyones comments on this page and you are all entitled to your own opinions, whether they are left or right wing.

Considering recent events over the publication of a number of cartoons that featured Allah, do those that try to insist that Islam is a peaceful religion support the actions in London, Denmark, Jakarta and so on?

The demonstration in London showed banners being waved with slogans such as 'London 7/7 is coming again' in reference to the terrorist attacks of last year.

Even if this represents a minority of the muslim community in the UK, why are those peaceful muslims not standing up and saying something to denounce this, in my opinion far right, action. So what if the cartoons offended the muslim community, the UK is not a muslim nation and although we openly welcome immigrants from all over the world, supporting violent actions on innocent people is no better than terrorism.

How quickly we all forget the turmoil that the people of Germany felt when they believed that the Jews were taking over their nation. It would only take a few people to start thinking along these lines for another socialist party to rise up. I'm an educated man and tolerate all peaceful people no matter what race or religion. but if we continue to see such acts by muslims then I can only fear that this adds fuel to far right groups such as the BNP and national front.

On channel 4 news this evening there was a comment that there was only one black artists in the top ten singles chart and hardly nominated for a brit award, so immediatley accusations of record labels not helping black artists are being slung about. Again ridiculous claims with the black artists not taking into consideration that just maybe the music is a) crap b) not commercially viable c) both of the above. I honestly feel we are heading to a race\religion war in Europe, it happened in Yugloslavia only a few years ago, and the politial correctness of the European governments is only acting as a catalyst.

In all honesty what do you find offensive, a caricature of your made up god of which there is no solid evidence, or video footage of a human being made to beg for his life and then being decapitated. Now explain who deserves to appologise UK press or Al Jazera TV.
