True , but what is so schizophrenic about today's German realities is that saying things like this publically is very dangerous , if not illegal. You can and should upbraid nazism , but beware of doing the same with Islam in Germany ! You are at once a xenophobe ( 'Auslaenderhasser' ), an intolerant one and yourself a nazi. You will be allowed and encouraged to criticize abstracly some 'totalitarian ideologies'. But if you dared include in them Islam in a public debate , there would be at once an outcry denouncing you and your perversity. Your choice would be either to recant (the favourite phrase should be "I have been misunderstood." ) what you said or the journalists and powers that be would destroy you. A fair chance to defend yourself would be hardly given to you as no major paper or TV would risk acting as a host for you out of fear for the authorities ("die Obrigkeit") and their sophisticated ways to silelnce unpopular views.

Persons like Dr Pipes would have no chance and no future in Germany. No university would dare employ him, his website would be banned by the Verfassungsschutz (the defence of the constitution authority) the as 'spreading hatred and destabilizing the existing constitutional order under the guise of freedom of speech and scholarly research". And no doubt legal measures would be taken against him. This forum would be blocked and the Verfassungsschutz would take care of its most vocal participants.
Freedom of speech similar to what America knows exists in Germany only on paper. It is publically welcome and everyone professes it , but when really vital issues are involved you get no real opportunity to exercise it on a meaningful scale.

I hope I am wrong about my negative assessment of Germany and her Islamophilia but I am forced to think that with her present ill soul and perturbed mind she herself cannot pass the loyalty test for Western civilization.
