There is in fact no double standard in favour of the Ukrainians

Reader comment on item: How Ukrainian Refugees Could Inadvertently Erase the West

Submitted by Amos Zot (Belgium), Jul 15, 2022 at 14:47

For me, when an Iraqi fleeing the war arrives in Turkey, he is a political refugee; when he decides to leave Turkey, where he is no longer in danger, to go to Germany, he becomes an economic refugee. When a Ukrainian fleeing the war arrives in the European Economic Area, he is a political refugee; if he decides to leave the European Economic Area, where he is no longer in danger, to go to Canada, he becomes an economic refugee.
There is no double standard, there is no racism, it is the same rule for everyone but the host countries must be financially assisted by the international community and each country must participate according to its GDP.
