Alqaeda vs. ISIS

One question I have is what significance, if any, Dr. Pipes attributes to the divisions between ISIS and the "central" leadership of Al qaeda and international Sunni jihad, as in Ayman Alzawahiri?

Such differences reflect differences in personnel, tactics, and ideology. They are real but they can also be patched up.
