A Disaster In The Making

Reader comment on item: Ariel Sharon's Folly

Submitted by Doris J. Snyder (United States), Apr 5, 2005 at 21:40

Thank you for your thorough article on Sharon's plan to forcibly move thousands of Israelis out of their homes, and give up that land to the Palestinians. I watch with horror, as the life and safety of Eretz Israel and its people are being offered up without thought to the consequences, by people who should know better.

I do wonder at your comment that by doing so, Sharon betrays its ally, the U.S.

Is it not the U.S. that keeps pushing for Israel to do just what Sharon is doing?

Daniel Pipes replies:

This question comes up often and I plan to address it shortly and at greater length.

Suffice to say for now that the Gaza withdrawal plan met with a skeptical reaction in Washington when first announced and has always been Sharon's idea, not the Bush administration's.
