Motivations for the opinions I expressed in the comment that I here answer to:

a) Disallowing Muslims to live in the Jewish part is the most realistic way to ensure that the Jews of Israel for a overseeing future will continue to have the power over themselves and not be a minority to Muslims.

b) The split of land maximizes the chances that the reactions from (realistically, also "in") other countries won't be overwhelmingly negative.
