How logic leads to new definitions

Reader comment on item: Israel's Arabs, Living a Paradox

Mr Pipes has always seemed to me to be firmly on the right in Israeli politics but his logic leads him to adopt ideas that would be acceptable to the leftists of Peace Now.

Indeed if Israel is to survive as a Jewish Democratic republic it must divest itself of Judea and Samaria- or most of it, plus possible further readjustments to reduce the impact of Arab Israelis on the character of Israel. For examples of poor integration look at Belgium or Mali, for the realities of inter-communal strife look at Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco,, Bahrain. Israel cannot afford an Arab Spring inside its borders.

In a one state solution Israel will be submerged and disappear. In a two state solution Israel must shrink in size and have firm defences. Any utopian confederations lie far in the future.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I said not a word here about the West Bank nor a one-state or two-state solution. I dealt only with internal Israeli matters.
