Reader comment on item: Predicting a Majority-Muslim Russia

Submitted by kaitsu80 (Finland), Oct 17, 2011 at 11:17

There is no "Muslim Russia" or "non-Muslim Russia" now or in future, just those who identify them as Russians or something else, like (worldwide) jihadist, neo-nazis or orthodox nationalists... Or otherwise declare as a separatist from unified Russia.

Despite all misconceptions, Muslims, even those that believe (like me) are mostly secular who dont actively aim or support any kind of "Muslim World Domination". Only small portion of Muslims interpretate Islam in a way that Islam spreading all over the world would mean political control, or killing those against it.

And about democraphics, as we see from Europe, 2nd and 3rd generation descents of immigrants have same birthrate as population in general. Why then some Muslim-majority areas in Russia have higher birthrates than Russia in general? Reason could be simply not just in culture, but in living standards as well. As we see from developing countries, people make children many times just to "security of old age" , or because they expect that not all their children live to be adults.

Though one thing is certain: I would not recommend to do anything to angry Muslim-majority military.
