Reader comment on item: Something Rotten in Denmark?
in response to reader comment: The Growing Racism in Denmark

Submitted by nikoline (Canada), Sep 3, 2010 at 11:46

I had lived in Denmark for nearly 8 years before moving back to Canada and can tell you I HAVE NEVER FELT WELCOME THERE. RACISM IS THRU THE ROOF IN THAT COUNTRY. Within very few rare exceptions my everyday experience was a reminder that I am an outsider and won't succeed in anything in Denmark. It would start with small everyday things like riding on a public bus, the way the cashier in Irma talks to you, your co-workers treat you and so on....Especially women.

Now after being home again for a number of years, those memories have become somewhat fainted and I even thought sometimes hey, it was not that bad! Until last month when I was flying back from Toronto to Ottawa and this Danish family was sitting in front of me. The lady asked me something and I replied in Danish, adding that I lived in Denmark for while. I saw right away the very same expression on her face that I was seeing everyday while living in Lyngby. It was disgusting and reminded me why I left in the first place.

So yes - from my lengthy experience and those of my friend, DENMARK IS THE MOST RACIST COUNTRY.
