The problem with beliefs today

Most of us r simply not qualified to coment on religion.I am hindu, schooled in a xian boarding & my learning of the holy qoran is seldom questioned by even imams. Our problem is that we dont get to choose our teachers. Pseudo holymen like osama and singhal influence us. By debating issues like idol worship, we r missing the imprtnt point. all religions have physical objects to assist the commoner attain unison with god. Idols, the holy cross, the holy quran etc. We wouldnt respect a plain book. But with the god's words on it, we worship it. We wouldnt worship any stone. But as lord shiva or vishnu we show great respect. These are like a burning candle on which novice yogis meditate upon. Once u see god within urself there needs to be no candle. All scriptures were written at a specific point in history with the then important social issues in focus.Times hav changed & we need to make necessary changes to our beliefs themselvs. Else it will be an insulting waste of our god gifted intelligence and talents.
