Reader comment on item: Once considered anti-Islam, senior scholar says he's now in the middle

Submitted by Joe Six-Pack (United States), Aug 19, 2010 at 10:54

It took 9/11 for me to really begin to study Islam. The more that I have studied Islam, the more that I have understood how this 'religion is poltical. The more that I have studied Islam, the more I understand how hostile many of the fundamentel concepts within Islam are compared to my own values and our legal system. (I refer to the legal system within the United States)

It is only natural that everyone sees things within the context of their experiences and knowledge. Naturally, differences are going to appear. Not everyone is as thoughtful and articluate as Daniel Pipes. Hopefully, enough of us will understand the basic problems well enough to develop an effective response. Thanks again for all of the hard work.
