Unquestioning acceptance is a choice

Reader comment on item: Keith Ellison, Where Are You?
in response to reader comment: I'm not sure I get the point, Sarah

I am Australian but my family are fairly orthodox Irish Catholics and I spent 13 years in the Catholic education system and attended church with my family until I left home. I did not swallow the entire Christian doctrine whole and accept all its claims without question, I came to my own conclusions about the origin of life and what is right and wrong, and some of it clashes heavily with the religon that surrounded me for my first 18 years. I have relatives that are Priests, Monks, and Nuns, and went to church and confession every week, It was not basic exposure to Christian ideals, infact fairly full on for Australia, but it also did not remove my ability to question the correctness of "the word of GOD" and find it contradictory. Sex and violence have saturated the media beyond basic exposure to the point where many people are desensitised. I am asking a serious question here from a lack of understanding and hope someone can answer me, but why virgins? Ok sexual gluttony would make 72 appear to be a good number but in terms of sexual satisfaction how is a virgin better than someone who has found their feet sexually so to speak? Is it a cultural preference of a general preference for virgins and what is it grounded in psychologically?
