I hate to be the one to break the news but people will find a way to justify their bad behavior with or without mis-interpreting or selectively attending to small passages of religous writing. Banning De Sades work didnt wipe out the behavior he wrote about, and the release of his works didnt suddenly create the behaviors either. If the idea of stoning someone doesnt appeal to you reading about it wont suddenly change your mind and if it does you will find some way to justify it with or without someone else telling you its OK. The vast majority of people have seen a murder on the news or a TV show but most people dont rush out and kill people just because they saw it on TV. If a book or an idea is so unsafe we can not be exposed to in incase we unthinkingly act on it then humanity is not that far evolved and will wipe itself out. Better watch out for those teletubbies TV shows, those little guys are round and kids will eat themselves into obesity just being exposed to such shocking images. PS I have read De Sade many years ago and am yet to rush off into a libertine orgy or sex and violence against others.
