It now seems it was inevitable

Reader comment on item: Predicting the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election

Dr. Pipes,

Like you, and I am sure many others, I am deeply disappointed and disturbed by so many Americans buying in to BHO's hope and change mantra. I think it was the combined forces of a desire to punish the incumbents, the financial crisis (wrongly blamed on the Republicans) and the hypnotic words of a mesmerising orator. Add to that the opportunity for Americans to vote for an African American (though he is not truly one), and one understands the inevitability. I am happy for African Americans, and would have voted for any person whom I thought would best serve this great nation. He was not one of them.

However, the most difficult aspect to accept is that if the media had done its job and properly vetted BHO as they should, instead of obfuscating and hiding his alarming associations and lack of performance in any significant area, he would have never have come this far. But apparently a good number of Americans preferred the illusions and novelty to experience and decisiveness. They preferred to roll the dice on our future during increasingly dangerous and perilous times. I am afraid of what it says about the future of our country. Hopefully it will be like the Carter presidency opening up the opportunity for a new Reagan to step in.

We can only hope that until then BHO will be forced to act like a President that befits the office that he will occupy come January, 2009.

My greatest fear is for Israel, now left alone to defend her very existence. Perhaps Netanyahu will be ushered in as the one best able to resist the intense pressure that will now be brought to bear upon her. I think that the American people yesterday voted for World War III.
