Reader comment on item: Obama's Mansion, Saddam's Money
in response to reader comment: Don, good luck in Peru

I realize now how much I´d taken it for granted (before living in Kuwait and Pakistan) how nice it is to be able to hold my wife´s hand in public, or for her to wear short sleeves and dress confortably without being stared at or having Islamist a-holes spit on the ground in front of us (their way of telling us they don´t like Westerners), to wear shorts if I wish, or to walk my dog on the streets without sneers, or not having to hear that damed prayer call five times a day and having it wake me every morning, and on Fridays having to listen to some pissed off psychopath blasting the entire neighborhood from the mosque speakers with his anger, and not wondering everytime I´m in public if I´m going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get blown up.

It´s especially nice not having to see women dressed like letter-boxes, or men with scraggly beards and a mean looking sneer on their faces. It´s just nice being around Christian people who you know don´t want to hurt or kill anyone, who have a smile for you wherever you go, a live-and-let-live attitude, and who don´t judge you by what religion you belong to or how long a beard you have or whether you can recite by heart in Arabic passages of a hate manual (The Koran). It´s like Heaven here.
