Reader comment on item: Obama's Mansion, Saddam's Money
in response to reader comment: Rumsfeld/Bush/Cheny all had closer ties to Saddam than Obama

Oh Holy one, the point is not about big O's religion. It is about how he arrived at where he is, who he might be beholden to and why so much is hidden from public scrutiny.

Re Rumsfeld, et al, it was a different time. A time of different national interests and more pressing and concrete villans. Things have changed as have policy responses, appropriately.

The idea that Republicans are the "fat cat" party and some backroom cabal dictates US global policy to their own advantage is a caricature that belongs in some far begone era. Pew Institute Research will show you who gets the big donations these days.

Re. The non-bid contracting. In most specialties of operation to support the war there were less than a handful of global companies with the logistical capacity and scale to do it. These were a US, a British, a French, a German and arguably a Russian based company. The French, Germans and Russians had been ripping the eyes out of the Iraqi people, via the UN "Food program" for many years and had wanted to continue to do so. They would therefore not be my first choice, particularly when it was US tax dollars that was largley funding it. Who was left? Please enlighten us "sans la Kool-aide"

Re. Blackwater. I think is populated, overwhelmingly, by ex-US military with a smattering from other military, from developed nations. Perhaps you believe we should have contracted the United Nations. Then we would have -

1. paid 5 times plus the cost of hiring Blackwater

2. not have been concerned with any casualties of the enemy because the blue hats typically don't cause many, and

3. been more concerned with the damage the UN force would do to the civilian population, particularly the women and children. It is the record.

Allah, you have thrown Republicans into the darkness until 2024 because they are void of ideas. Great one, please enlighten me on what ideas you think will work best.

Do you believe in collectivism? Do you believe in Individualism?

Which do you think is the best way to advance mankind?...
