Islam; not just another religion.

Reader comment on item: 'Become a Muslim warrior'

It is no coincidence that of 38 Moslem states only one, Turkey, has a democratic constitution.

Islamic nations are run according to Allah's laws and not the laws of men and hence, as they believe, the two cannot coexist. Islam, according to its own interpreters has nothing but contempt and disdain for liberal democracy. They pray daily for the downfall of the west, especially The United States and its creature Israel. Just as Islam cannot coexist with other religions so Islam cannot coexist with a civil polity run according to the laws of men, i.e. a constitutional democracy.

It is important to recognize this fact. If we want to entertain realistic proposals for dealing with Arabs and in general with Islamic nations we must get these silly notions out of our heads. The west must live with Islam of course; but it must be a guarded and vigilant way. Muslims who live in the west are bound, because of their circumstances, to curb their real aims. We in the west find it almost impossible to understand this. For generations we have lived peacefully with people of all religious faiths and ethnicities.

Islam is not just one of the great monotheistic religions. It will not allow its founding documents to be examined as we in the west have allowed Christianity and Judaism to be examined. The approach to Islam must be on the knees of the believer with mind closed to all possible skepticism or not at all. Don't beguile yourselves with thoughts of reform of these 7th century ideas.
