Mr. Pipes;

I read your article with interest and concern. First you forget to mention the Democratic Clinton administration which was very supportive and a great friend of Israel. In fact as you mention, the "US-Israel bond is a special relationship". It has been special and reciprocal through both Democratic and Republican administrations, because of intelligence, defense and other mutual interests, and will continue so, despite which party is in power, in the US.

My great concern is with those people who vote based on one issue, be it abortion, gay marriage, or Israel. Our primary concern should be with the health and welfare of the United States. If the United States is strong, then Israel will be the beneficiary. But if we are beset by problems, as we are now, because of the huge debt, a preemptive war in Iraq, divisiveness, environmental concerns, lack of world respect, then Israel will also suffer. The handwriting is on the wall. During the next decade the strongest countries will be China and India. Are they going to be supportive of Israel and her right to exist?

So , when we vote, we'd better vote for candidates whose policies will make this country fiscally, environmentally responsible, and energy independent., and Israel will also be the beneficiary.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I did not forget to mention Clinton; rather, I am looking at longer term trends.
