A Theory of Partisan Split

Reader comment on item: Democrats, Republicans, and Israel

Submitted by LDC (United States), May 23, 2006 at 11:56

"A detailed look at this same data finds...conservative Republicans over five times more sympathetic to Israel than liberal Democrats."

Shelby Steele's book, White Guilt, implies an explanation for this spread between conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats. Liberal Democrats are more influenced by the collective syndrome that Steele calls "White Guilt." The Jews, more closely associated with European peoples, are, in the tradition of the European colonial era, oppressing the poor, 3rd World Palestinians.

The Palestinians have marketed this oppressed image of themselves with outstanding success. Liberal Democrats symathize with Palestinians Arabs to assuage their collective guilt for historical wrongs done by whites to other races--conquest, slavery, exploitation of natural resources, etc. Jesse Jackson has made millions extorting money from companies using the white-guilt-trip leverage. Cynthia McKinney is a professional victim with questionable mental capacities. Jimmy Carter is a well-meaning man who never advanced from the naivete world-view that bounced him into the Presidency after Watergate. (We tired of him after four long years.) As for James Moran, who thought US Jews could dissuade the Bush Administration from going to war with Iraq, who knows the logic.

(If you're not familar with Shelby Steele, you might check him out before labeling him a racist.)
